A Lightweight and Efficient Performer

Over the past 25 years, we’ve used plenty of different cooker systems, and it’s amazing how much they’ve evolved—especially in the last decade. Lightweight design and efficiency have come a long way, making modern cookers an essential part of any hunter’s gear.

When choosing a new cooking system, weight is always a key factor, but I also consider what’s included in the package rather than just focusing on grams—most cookers these days are lightweight anyway. Since the Optimus Elektra FE Cook System was new to me, I had no preconceived expectations when I unboxed it. The first thing I noticed? It felt incredibly light, which was already a win in my book.

Another great feature is the non-stick coating, which makes cleanup effortless—something every hunter appreciates after a long day in the bush. We put the Optimus to the test on a three-night mission in the Kaimanawas, as well as a head-to-head comparison at home against another well-known cooker to measure boil time differences.

After testing the Optimus Elektra FE, I have just one question—why would I spend more on another brand when this one does it all? It’s lightweight, fast, and comes with everything you need for a reliable backcountry cooking experience. If you’re after a solid, well-priced cook system, this one should be on your list.

The Optimus Elektra FE Cook System is an all in one cook set that stores in a single lightweight, compact and durable unit. Along with the Crux Lite burner, it has a heat exchanger pot and lid that distributes heat evenly across the base of the pot and protects the flame from the elements. 

This super efficient cooking system results in 28% faster cooking times and 20% fuel savings when compared with an uncovered pot with no lid. Non-stick coating makes cleaning up a breeze. Folding handles wrap around the pot and frying pan which compacts down to a diameter of just 124mm.

Includes: Crux Lite stove, a heat exchange pot with lid and a new non-stick coating, clip-on windscreen and a handheld Piezo ignitor.
